milestones
1898 AD
In Črnomelj and Semič the waterworks were built.
1906 AD
In Kanizarica near Crnomelj brick production was founded.
1914 AD
Railway line Ljubljana-Karlovac was built (extended?)
1917 AD
During WW1 steam saw was built in Črnomelj.
1920 AD
An iron foundry was founded in Črnomelj by Janez Doltar, an emigrant who returned
from the USA.
1928 AD
In Crnomelj a roll mill was put to work.
1929 AD
A wine co-operative was founded in Metlika.
1941 - 1945 - 2nd
World War
In 1944 in Črnomelj there was a congress of the Slovene national liberation
council which presents one of the milestones for the Slovene national state. In the same
year a secondary school gymnasium was established in Črnomelj. After the war, Bela
krajina faced an economic, cultural and social development which is still progressing
today.
1951
In Metlika a museum dedicated to "Bela krajina" with rich archaeological,
ethnological, cultural and historical collection was established, as well as two local
collections in Semič and Vinica.
1959
In Črnomelj a college of further education was established.
