1748 AD
Metlika was a centre of a peasant rebellion.
1809 - 1813 AD
Being a part of the Illyrian Provinces, Bela krajina belonged to the French Empire.
1846 AD
In Črnomelj the old town hall was rebuilt into a school. With a decline of the
Protestantism the education also declined. This was later revived at the time of Joseph
II, however, it declined again during the Illyrian provinces. In 1800
a new school front was rebuilt.
1851 - 1883 AD
Iron foundry operated in Gradac.
1857 AD
In Kaniľarica near Črnomelj a coal mine was opened.
1869 AD
In Metlika the first fire station in Slovenia was established. The long tradition
can be seen by a visit to the Slovene firemen museum.
1874 AD
In Metlika the first loan bank in the Dolenjska region was founded.
