7th century AD
Migration of nations: during these times of unrest, Bela krajina was a safe
shelter for romanised Christian inhabitants. They preserved their culture and
administration till the 7th century. The most important archaeological sites
are Kucar - early Christian centre and the historic core of Crnomelj.
10th - 11th century AD
Traces of Slaves remained around the parish church.
1228 AD
The parish of Crnomelj was established by Patriarch
of Aquilea.
1268 AD
The parish of Crnomelj was permanently incorporated into the German knight order.
1227 AD
Crnomelj is mentioned as a market town
for the first time in one of the documents.
1300 AD
In written sources, Metlika is referred to as a market being a property of the
counts of Tyrol and Gorica. Probably they had market rights already in the second half of
the 13th century.
