1st half of the fifth millennium - middle
of the 3rd millennium BC:
Bela krajina was inhabited by early farmers and metal producers (copper).
They settled fertile and safe area on the river banks. Settlements known from this period
are near Pusti Gradac, Gradac and Moverna vas.
1000 - 750 BC:
Urnified culture: usage of bronze, culture and trade connections
with Pannonia.
Approximately 750 - 300 BC: Halstadt:
Alongside Pannonia, the country had commercial relations with
Central Europe and Italy. The country has experienced greatest economic and culture
prosperity based on exploiting iron ore and close connections with Pannonia, Central
Europe and Italy. The most important are archaeological sites found on "Kucar
hill" above Podzemelj, and Clemine above Vinica and in Metlika.
300 BC - approximately 33 AD
Settling of Ilirian Japods with their own specific culture.
Approximately 33 - 476 AD
Annexation of Bela krajina by Rome to the province of Pannonia. From this period,
in the authentic environment of remote valley near Rozanc, the temple of Mitra - the sun
god - is preserved.
