Semic

A larger settlement at foot of the viniferous Semiska gora. The dominant position on the central square occupies the church of St.Stephen, which was indirectly mentioned by written sources in 1228. Above Semic the Smuk with castle ruins and the once known pilgrimage church of St.Lawrence with the year 1687 above the main portal rises. Below the village Sela there is a smaller water cave Lebica, once an important source of drinking water, near the village Mladica, however, an interesting karstic cave Malikovec.

Semic with its surroundings may be proud of its rich trees heritage. In Kot by Semič, in the yard of the former castle vineyard cottage, a more than 600 years old mighty lime tree with chest measurement 780 cm grows. An equal respect deserve also the lime tree in the Brezova reber (580 cm) with an extraordinary branched out crown and typical trunk, Jureca lime tree (520 cm) in Vrtaca and Pajtler's lime tree (560 cm) in Stara gora.

In the surroundings of Semic there are many vineyards, where vines of the best quality grow. Known vineyards are: Milharjeva gora, Stara gora, Anslova gora, Gorenjci, Rucetna gora and Strmec.

In the middle of the square, surrounded by interesting houses, there is the baroque church of Virgin Maria, which was mentioned for the first time in 1526. From the older building there is only the church tower left. Under the settlement the Divji potok is flowing over a series of cascades and rapids.

Mirna Gora

The highest peak of Bela krajina. Mirna gora rises at the eastern margin of the Kočevski Rog. It is a frequently visited mountain and trip destination with an alpine hut. The church of St.Francisco on the Mirna gora was burnt down during the National Liberation War, the church tower is today a belvedere. Numerous blazed mountain paths lead to the top, the most interesting one is the instructively equipped forest path going from the Planina.
