Drage Parish
My grandfather, Gabre Popovic, was baptized in the Greek Catholic parish of Drage on 24 April 1890. He was the son of Marko Popovic and Mare Petkovic, who lived at Popovici #2. He came to the U.S. with his older brother Petar in 1909 and settled in Indiana Harbor, Indiana.
According to the passenger manifest, Petar had a wife Julika back home in Popovici. Since there is no other record of Petar in the U.S., we assume he returned to Popovici.
Another brother, Marko, died of the Spanish influenza in Indiana in 1918.
A sister (or more likely half-sister) Jela came to the U.S. in 1921.
Since the records available on microfilm only cover 1889-1900 and are only for baptisms, there are a lot of questions outstanding for my family.
I have transcribed the baptismal register of Drage parish for the years 1889 to 1900. The most common surnames include Popovic, Smiljanic, Predovic, Badovinac, Damjanovic, Selakovic, Reba and Bjelopavlovic. Villages within the parish included Drage, Popovici, Skemljevac, Hrast, Malinje, Dol, Jugorje.
The parish register notes a few marriages and deaths in the U.S., including some from Colorado and at least one from Cleveland.
I would be happy to share information with anyone whose ancestors came from this parish, and would love to hear from anyone in the Old Country who may be related.
Can someone translate "Mjesto stanovanja kucni broj i zupa roditelja"? I am unclear about house/household/farm numbers - old and new. Are these new houses that were built, or new households? Was everyone living at the same number related? Or were households that included unrelated workers on a farm?

Schimetz Schemitsch Simec
My g.grandmother, Maria Schimetz (Schemitsch? Simec?), emigrated to America in 1892. ( Maria was born 18 Sept 1871 to Maria Schimetz and Johann Weis.) She married Johann Verderber that year. Johann's family lived in Nemska Loka, Saderz 11. Johann's first marriage in Baranya, Funfkirchen, Austria-Hungary to Elizabetha Samec ended with Elizabetha's death from cholera in 1891 in IL. When Johann died in 1899, Maria married Edward Shalla (Sala? Skala?) Maria listed "Unterkrain" on her marriage license. Edward listed "Hungaria-Austria". A woman from Slovenia who emailed me suggested that I should be looking in Bela Krajina.
If these names are familiar, would you please contact me? Thanks!

Vertin Family of Doblice - WhiteCarnolian
have been tracing the Vertin Family that lived in Doblice 26 and 27. Joannes Vertin is the the beginning of this line. His son was Georg Vertin and he married Margaretha Dershaj. This family has intermarried into my own line of Plavecs and Movrins. I am interested in any information that pertains to this family line. George's son Michael married and was the father of Mathias Vertin, Mathias if the father of the boys who formed Vertin Brother's Department Store in Calumet, Michigan. I have almost all the marriages of George's children recorded. The houses we are related to are Krakar (7), Geshel (10)Vertin (20), Vertin (26/27) and in Gric 1, Movrin, and several other houses in Gric. Would like to correspond with any descendants who remained in Slovenia. Contact me for the family history at g1plautz@aol.com.
