Miha Grenec

Am trying to solve the puzzle of my grandfather - he is listed variously as Michael Grentz/ Mikov Grenez or Michael Grenc depending on the document but have been told by a Slovenian friend that he was most likely named Miha Grenec. His passport dates from 1898 and I believe he sailed from Trieste to North America, with his brother Frank (?) Grenec, somewhere around that date. According to his passport he was born in 1886 in Gorica, village of Vrh, county of Crnomelj, in the kingdom of Kranj (?). His father was Georg Grenec and mother was Margareta Lukanic. In 1908 he was living in Calumet, Michigan where he married my grandmother Katarina Spehar (born in Michigan, daughter of Mike Spehar and Katarina Lovrencic). As far as we know, he did not have any furthur contact with his family and we have no idea if he had other siblings. Any help at all would be appreciated (or any suggestion as to other resources?)! Thanks so much! Katrina (ab329@chebucto.ns.ca)
